New music participant: No Trace band from China

NO TRACE 01

One more representative of Asian scene – No Trace band – was formed in 2008 by several unemployed youths from middle class families in Beijing. In the beginning, just like other young people, they are restless and imagined. With the rapid loss of time, understanding each other’s character, soon they turned into a relatively self-closing and passive groups. Since the summer of 2009, they started in this long-term, yearly based run-in creation, contradictions and reconciliation. The entire group has been practiced in a basement.

The band gradually towards to a demotivate but easygoing type of work. Dusky musical temperament, such as using words to build no tendency of humanist point of view. Advocating philosophical perspective but in a relative light logic. Rich picture scenes but experimental tone of music. It is hard to describe their style, the music delivering strong sense of atmosphere, unhappy feelings, not weak rhythms but less restlessness.

In 2018 No Trace made a China tour with self-title debut album, and now is working on the 2nd album recording which will come soon. In June they’ll perform in Russia for the first time – at V-ROX EXPO.

Solvychegodsk is a small town in the Arkhangelsk region (North-European part of Russia). Also this is the name of the band, which was formed only three years ago, but has already released 14 albums and will perform at the V-ROX EXPO festival.

Their latest album is called “100 places to visit”, and includes such songs as “Derbent”, “Krasnodar”, “Petrozavodsk”, “Kirov” (names of Russian towns) and so on. They use to play crazy free jazz, their sound is close to New York downtown stars of the mid-80s. As they use to say, the Solvychegodsk participants established the first regular free-jazz battle in Russia – the winner is defined by the audience.

First V-ROX EXPO music participants: Beat Bahnhof band from Tokyo (Japan)

Beat Bahnhof in Germany

Beat Bahnhof call themselves the The Samurais of Ska and consists of seven musicians. Before forming, Ace-K and Masaki had introduced the initial concept of “4th Wave ska” a term encompassing the “development and discovery of Jamaican old-school”.

The band was founded in 2012 by Ace-K. The band’s signature sound derives from the finest twin-guitar combination of Fender and Gretsch. With the clean cut of the Fender blended with the vintage , hard solo drive of the Gretsch which lead guitarist Makoto brings with his different rock style. The sauce is flavoured with the horn-section of Thomas and 460, while an aggressive Bassist Akihiro.o and energetic drummer Wada form the band’s back-bone. The vocals are shared by AceK and Makoto.

In 2013 they released their debut CD produced by bassie Akihiro.o. The band broke out after supporting Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra at the Tokyo Ska Jamboree 2014 in front of seven thousand people. They also backed up Bucket from the legendary NYC act The Toasters on a multi-city Japan tour as well as an appearance at the NGOSKA Festival in Seoul, Korea.  The band has the worldwide view also in Asia. Shared the stage with HK ska pioneer The Red Stripes. They also toured in Europe.

This is what Ace-K told all the members at the beginning when the project was launched: he made a promise that they would be playing at The London International Ska Festival within five years. This had been his dream over 20 years earlier. The dream came true. Finally Beat Bahnhof featured on The London International Ska Festival in 2015.

Now they are dreaming about Vladivostok. After less than 4 month their dream will come true: Beat Bahnhof will play at V-ROX EXPO June, 21-23.

V-ROX EXPO. Open festival of culture. June 21-23, 2019, Vladivostok

January 24, 13:20
vrox_poster_site-news_470x300_eng

V-ROX EXPO is an open festival of culture, a creative laboratory of ideas ranging from street art, music, gastronomy and sports to blockchain, crowd-funding platforms and new music streaming services. EXPO will continue the history of the V-ROX festival, which had been taking place in Vladivostok 2013 – 2017.

Ilya Lagutenko: “Now it has finally become clear that the V-ROX festival, which was successfully launched six years ago and which we all would like to carry on, does not match with our real capabilities. We need to focus on local business models and discover new formats. I came to the idea that V-ROX should become something more than just a music festival. Now I would call it an “open festival of culture”, the festival open to any ideas. I think this is what we are going to work with going forward.”

Special attention at the V-ROX EXPO will be paid to art. The person in charge of this part of V-ROX EXPO will be Dmitry ASKE – a bright representative of the new generation of artists of Russia, known for his large-scale wall paintings on buildings in Moscow and Europe, as well as for unique multi-layered mosaic reliefs and wooden sculptures.  During the V-ROX EXPO new bright frescoes will appear in Vladivostok and several interesting exhibitions will open in the city galleries.

The central point of attraction for music fans at the V-ROX EXPO will be Mumiy Troll Music Bar. On the weekend of the festival gigs by music bands and DJs from various countries will take place. International music line-up will be accompanied by the unique  bartender show and the special concert program named “Candlelight Dancing”. This time sport events will be held on the water, while one of the cinemas will host the designers’ market.

V-ROX EXPO news will be available online at www.vrox.org and on the festival’s social media platforms. We encourage all those interested in taking part in planning of the EXPO festival to forward your ideas to info@vrox.org. You can support the V-ROX EXPO on the crowd-funding site planeta.ru by making your contribution or by buying our special V-ROX EXPO T-shirts, bracelets and much more provided by the participants of the festival.
